WINOOSKI, VT — Thousands of Vermonters are now behind the wheel of electric vehicles as the state passes a key milestone of more than 10,000 registered EVs, new data from Drive Electric Vermont show.
Vermont reached 10,022 EVs in July, according to Department of Motor Vehicles registration data tracked by the Agency of Natural Resources and DEV. This milestone is reached just as the nation prepares for National Drive Electric Week (now to Oct. 1. It is a celebration of the benefits of driving electric cars and trucks, riding electric bikes, using electric lawn care equipment, and other low-emitting electrified transportation options.
“This is a great time to drive electric,” David Roberts, coordinator for DEV said. “More EV models are available, including all-wheel drive options popular with Vermonters. And incentives can now reduce EV purchase prices by up to $20,000.”
The EV milestone comes as thousands of Vermonters are recovering from devastating summer floods. The state now offers enhanced incentives to help Vermonters with flood-damaged vehicles afford electric or efficient replacements. Those inducements are on top of other flood recovery offers, including support for homeowners, renters, and businesses.
The state incentives are on top of federal and electric utility offers that can reduce the cost of buying or leasing an EV, as well as saving on home charging.
