CLAREMONT, NH — Ward II Councilor James Contois has decided against running for re-election in November.

The Eagle Times learned about the Councilor’s intentions during a phone call with Publisher Richard Girard on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Contois’ tenure has been bumpy, as he was voted off the council on Feb. 8 and reinstated after a legal battle.

Members of the Claremont City Council acknowledged his efforts to move the community forward.

Mayor Dale Girard

“Councilor Contois has worked hard during his term to represent his constituents in the entire city. We have been able to work on infrastructure needs during that time, which has helped move the city in a positive direction. I wish him well and hope he continues to have his views known in the future.”

Councilor Spencer Batchelder

“I would like to publicly thank Jim for his commitment to the community and service on the council and the Conservation Commision. His perspective will be missed, but I am sure his engagement on important topics and service in other capacities to the community will continue.”

Councilor Jonathan Stone

“I would like to ack- nowledge the positive contributions Councilor Contois has made to the city while serving his terms on the council. I would also wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Councilor William Limoges

“I think Councilor Contois made the best decision for himself. I thank him for his service and wish him good fortune in his future endeavors.”
