Robert F. Gustafson

Robert F. Gustafson UNITY NH -Robert Fred Gustafson, of Unity, NH and formerly of Higganum, CT passed away at home on September 15, 2023 with his family by his side, at the age of 92. He was born April 22, 1931, in Middletown, CT. He was the fifth child in a family of eight children. He attended local schools and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the class of 1950. He worked for a short time for the City of Middletown CT in public works. He started a long career with Southern New England Telephone Co in Middletown CT for 37 years. After retiring, he went on to work for the State of CT in the parks dept for 12 years retiring at the age of 72. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. When his sons joined the Boy Scouts, he became Asst Scout Master for the Haddam Boy Scouts, Troop 44. He was also a committee member and caretaker of Camp Gus, the troop camp. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beatrice (Kroc) Gustafson, two sons, Eric D. Gustafson of Enfield, CT and Todd A. Gustafson of Middletown CT, two sisters, Nancy Oldershaw of Stoddard, NH and Linda Walczak of Spring Hill, FL and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin F. Gustafson and Edith Hartke Gustafson; one brother, Edwin F. Gustafson, four sisters, Margaret Gustafson, Carolyn G. Stevens, Shirley G. Wilcox, and Ona G. Muszynski. Per his wishes there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the Higganum-Burr Cemetery in Higganum, CT on October 4th at 11AM with family and friends.
