Sunapee was outplayed by Concord Christian Academy from start to finish, losing 5-0 at Alexander Field.
“They are an impressive team in every way … smart, composed, good ball skills. They are a difficult opponent,” said Head Coach Myles Cooney. “That said, I think we gave in a bit and need to work on doing what we do well; with purpose and confidence.”
Annaliese Rowell was a bright spot in goal as was Jenna Caron in the backline, but at the end of the day Concord stole the headlines and looks to be a solid contender in Division 4.
“I know we are more capable than we played today. Our schedule doesn’t get any easier, so we need to learn through what looks to be a difficult stretch in our season,” Cooney said. “My hope is that some of our younger and less experienced players will learn and grow through this stretch.”
Back in action again Tuesday, Oct. 3, Sunapee struggled against their biggest rival and the undefeated Newmarket, losing 5-0 in a game that saw Newmarket continually attack the Lakers backline.
Goalkeeper Annaliese Rowell again was a bright spot in the Lakers performance, as was the effort in the midfield by Clare Tuohy. She made more than a handful of spirited runs late in the game, almost cashing in on a couple of opportunities.
“My sincere hope is that some of our younger and less experienced players will learn and grow through this stretch in our schedule,” Cooney reiterated. “My focus is on improved effort and consistent play with a purpose. I believe we will accomplish these goals.”
