After Series of Losses, Sunapee Back in W Column

HINSDALE, NH — The Sunapee Lakers (7-4) got back in the win column against Hinsdale (5-5) Wednesday, Oct. 4, with a 5-1 victory on the road. They had lost their previous three matches to Portsmouth Christian, Concord Christian and Newmarket.

Sunapee struggled to find its rhythm early as they crowded the space on a smaller pitch on the border of Massachusetts.

“I think some of the conservative and direct game planning we did against the stronger teams in our division worked against us today,” said Sunapee Head Girls Soccer Coach Myles Cooney.

In the second half, the Lakers started to spread the field and found an attacking rhythm. Hinsdale’s lone goal came off a direct kick at the top of the penalty box, but other than that, the Lakers kept their lead striker, Brooke Pageen, in check. Clare Tuohy found the back of the net 4 times, 2 of outstanding quality, on headers off a corner from Sophie Bourque. Amelia Slack also notched her first goal of the season. Assists on the evening were awarded to Sophie Bourque (2) and Delia Leslie (1).

“We have been on a tough stretch of games and travel, we need to get some practice time in, get back to the basics of what works for us, do it quicker and together as we prepare for the stretch run,” Cooney said.

The Lakers (7-4) are back in action Friday, Oct. 6, at Pittsfield (2-8) with a 4 p.m. start time.
