Dorothy D. Silver NEWPORT, NH -Dorothy D. Silver, 102, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on October 1, 2023 at Marie Silver Assisted Living Facility in Surprise, AZ. Dorothy was born in Newport, NH on April 28, 1921 to Nathan and Libby Daimont. Upon graduation from Towle High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1938, Dorothy went on to attend Juilliard in New York City where she was introduced to her future husband, Jack Silver. Dorothy and Jack returned to Newport in 1947 where they welcomed their daughter, Barbara in 1950 and their son, Leonard “Lenny”, in 1953. Dorothy began working at the Newport Hospital followed by working for the town of Newport for many years. When her husband passed in 1979 she moved to Claremont, NH where she began working at the Marion Phillips Apartments for Senior Citizens. Dorothy loved to square dance, bowl, play Mah Jong and cards, listen to music and watch sports – especially attending Lenny’s races at Claremont Speedway. She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of Eastern Star in Newport. After retirement Dorothy relocated to Pembroke Pines, FL in 1986 where she established a large group of friends whom she shared many activities with. Dorothy was always happy to be the chauffeur. She also frequently visited her mother who passed away before her 105th birthday. Shortly after celebrating her 90th birthday (and relinquishing her car keys), Dorothy joined Barbara and her husband, William, in Sun City West in 2012. Known for her competitive spirit – Dorothy was an avid card player and frequent bingo winner. She quickly established a new group of friends including her closest friend, Blanche. Dorothy also enjoyed getting her hair and nails done with Barbara. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lord, of Sun City West, AZ, her son, Lenny Silver (Debbie) of Claremont, NH, her granddaughter, Melissa Watson (Branden) of Duxbury, MA, her grandson, Ryan Silver of Chicago, IL, and her great-grandsons Jack and Evan Watson. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, her parents, one brother, Kermit Daimont and her son-in-law, William Lord. There will be a graveside service at a future date.
