Spooky History and Hardly Haunted Fun at Billings Farm and Museum

Eagle Times Staff
WOODSTOCK, VT — Learn some spooky history with the “Life & Death Tours” on Friday, Oct. 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. Join in the festivities at Billings Farm and Museum again on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., for “A Family Halloween” filled with trick-or-treating, costume parades and more.

For “A Family Halloween,” children in costume receive free admission when accompanied by a ticketed adult.

There will be sweet and slightly spooky activities all around the farm with trick-or-treating throughout the day, and costume parades at three different times. The fright is light as guests are invited to explore the not-too-scary Sunflower House and hardly haunted exhibits. Guests can vote for the best carved pumpkin made by Billings Farm & Museum staff.

There will be fun for the whole family with pumpkin bowling, historic and modern lawn games and a chance to meet the farm’s animals. Children can craft a wearable spider or bat pin and cozy up for Halloween-themed story time. The fall day would not be complete without a picturesque wagon ride through the pastures, loading from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Billings Farm & Museum’s MOOveable Feast Food Truck will offer a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches and creamy mac-n-cheese made with Billings Farm Cheeses, plus waffle dogs, drinks and chips from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Farmhouse Scoop Shop will feature the quintessential taste of fall, including hot and cold cider, hot chocolate, apple cider donuts, ice cream and more.

Get into the Halloween spirit with a “Life & Death Tour” that starts at Billings Farm’s 1890 Farm Manager’s House and ends at the mansion at the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park.

Costumed tour guides will share tales of the people who lived and died on the Billings farm and estate, while exploring Victorian-era superstitions, views on death and mourning traditions through artifacts and stories. This tour will provide a fascinating new perspective on these historic Woodstock landmarks. Intended for ages 13+, this tour discusses heavy themes. Advance tickets are required.
