I-91 Bridge Construction Updates

WESTMINSTER, VT — A rolling roadblock is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 8, and will occur at some point between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to switch traffic onto the travel lane of the southbound bridge. A slowing of traffic will occur during the rolling roadblock.

A speed reduction of 55 mph is in place on I-91 within the project area. Fines are doubled for speeding within the construction zone.

Crews will be placing the final pavement across the bridge. Crews will also be installing signs, guardrails, asphaltic expansion joints, line striping and delineators throughout the project.

Sunapee Town Offices Closed Veterans Day

SUNAPEE, NH — A reminder that the Town Offices will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, in observance of Veterans Day. The offices will reopen as usual on Monday, Nov. 13 at 8 a.m.

Perkinsville Village History and Nature Walk

PERKINSVILLE, VT — Join Weathersfield’s Conservation Commission, Historical Society and Parks and Recreation for a history and nature walk through Perkinsville Village on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 8:30 a.m.

The walk will leave from the 1879 Schoolhouse and take hikers along the Black River to the former Perkinsville Lower Village. Becky Tucker, author of “We Remember: Before and After the North Springfield Flood Control Project,” will locate the settlement that was taken down beginning in 1957.

Those on the walk will look at the old power dam and the work that the Army Corps has undertaken to restore this area after the July floods. They will be back in Perkinsville in time for the Veterans Day Memorial Service on the Perkinsville Green.

This event is rain or shine, free and open to all. Wear bright clothing. Park at Hoisington Field (1862 VT-106, Perkinsville, VT 05151). Copies of “We Remember” (book and map of houses taken) will be available for $15. For more information, call (802) 263-5584.

Interfaith Youth Group Meets for Fellowship, Service

BRATTLEBORO, VT — The Brattleboro Interfaith Youth Group is seeking young people ages 13-18 to join its monthly Service & Fellowship meeting on Nov. 12, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main Street in downtown Brattleboro.

At this gathering, the group will enjoy the fellowship of a Spaghetti Supper (vegetarian and gluten free options provided on request), perform a Service Project to benefit Carry Me Home (a refugee clothing and home supply shop at Centre), followed by a game of hide ‘n seek. According to organizers, this is an ideal time for any interested youth to come check it out and bring a friend.

The goal of this group is to build leadership skills and friendships among young people who care and want to make a difference in their communities. Past groups have tackled community service projects, social justice issues, learned about different faith traditions, canoe and camped together, held overnight “Lock-Ins” locally, attended youth leadership conferences and explored New York City’s diversity and rich traditions.

Meeting on Health Care in Windsor County Nov. 13

SPRINGFIELD, VT — On Monday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m., members of the public are invited to participate in a virtual community meeting about the future of health care in Windsor County.

During these community conversations, meeting attendees will have a chance to share their firsthand experiences with navigating the health care system; what is going well, what do you want to see more of, what changes could make it easier to get the care you need at an affordable price?

This meeting is part of a broad, statewide community engagement effort to improve the sustainability of Vermont’s health care system, starting with the experiences and priorities of local residents.
