CLAREMONT, NH — After a hand recount Tuesday, Nov. 14, Jonathan Hayden’s six-vote-victory margin over incumbent Claremont City Councilor Jonathan Stone remained unchanged.
The 247-241 hand count identical to the initial machine count after polls closed Tuesday, Nov. 7.
Stone requested the recount the next morning, although he was cautious that any recount would change the result.
“In the last election I had, our standings didn’t change, but the numbers certainly went up,” he said. “If someone did something on the ballot that may not have triggered the machine, that’s quite possible. It’s not uncommon to pick up votes either way. Mr. Hayden can pick up more votes doing a head count.”
However, he said validating the voting process is always worth it.
