NEWPORT, NH — Amie and Callie Freak, along with their partners Jim Morgan and his husband Paul, became the owners of Newport garden center and gift shop Kathan Gardens on Nov. 15.
The partners say they are committed to honoring the business’s legacy while implementing positive changes.
The Freaks are also partners in the Briar Patch Company and are thrilled to be managing Kathan Gardens.
“I’ve always wanted to work here. Knowing Jill and Dennis Kathan, they are such great people. It’s like a dream come true,” said Callie Freak, expressing admiration for the previous owners.
Kathan Gardens has been running in Newport since 1955. Callie and Amie Freak say they are passionate about maintaining the aspects of Kathan Gardens that are loved by residents.
“We want to continue Jill and Denis’ legacy and just go up from there,” Callie said. Part of that, she said, is keeping the “Kathan” name and not erasing the founders’ history.
