WINDSOR, VT — Jolly Old Saint Nick continued his Christmas tour Sunday, Dec. 10, and visited Windsor Diner on Main Street.

Area residents with their children stopped by, told Santa what they hoped to find under the tree Monday, Dec. 25, and left with big smiles and candy canes provided by Santa’s elves.

Santa loves the great food at Windsor Diner and always visits each holiday season.

“The Windsor kids have been really good this year,” said Santa. “I love the fish and chips here.”

Andrew Gee Jr. was excited to meet Santa and said he’s been a good boy most of the time.

“Sometimes I have attitude, and I’m mean to my mom,” he said. “My favorite reindeer is Rudolph.”

Andrea Turner, Andrew’s mom, said he’s been “pretty good” this year.

“I think I might bake a lot of cookies, but I might buy some from the Windsor Diner too,” said Turner. “I like Stitch and Oogie Boogie from the Nightmare before Christmas.”

Kayden Ferguson’s mom, Alyssa, said he’ll be happy on Christmas.

“We’re going to my aunt’s house this Christmas,” she said. “I like ham on Christmas with pumpkin pie.”

AJ Chase thinks a new car would make a perfect Christmas gift, but he hasn’t bought anything for his parents yet.

“I like ham on Christmas,” he said.

Waitress Shelly Becker said Santa visits the Windsor Diner because they have the best cookies.

“We have a bakery here,” said Becker. “We have excellent staff, who make excellent food, plus all the pretty lights and ambiance.”

Becker planned to discuss her Christmas list with Santa, but she noted there are many wants and needs.

“I want my family to be able to be able to come together for Christmas this year,” she said.

Owner Teresa Taylor said the feeling of family at the Diner is retro, evident and infectious.

“We’re just ourselves and invite everyone to come back,” said Taylor. “We make sure their bellies are full.”

She offers a standard menu, but the specials rotate.

“The most popular special is sausage and gravy on a biscuit,” she said. “The biscuits and gravy are homemade. Our haddock boat is really popular, as well.”

Becker said Windsor Diner will have holiday gifts featuring cookie baskets baked in their bakery ready for everyone’s Christmas order.

“With gift certificates included, made by Teresa Taylor,” she said.

When entering the Windsor Diner, Becker said guests will get a pure ‘50s feel when they sit down, accented by the Taylor family, that makes everyone feel welcome.

“It’s authentic, and everything here is still original to the diner,” she said. “Teresa does a ton of baking for the holidays; she’ll make pies, cakes, cookies, lemon and raspberry bars.”

Becker said guests love the Diner’s burger baskets.

Our breakfast dishes are also really popular, our omelets (three eggs) and eggs Benedict,” Becker said. “At lunch, besides the burger baskets, our seafood has been a big hit.”

The Windsor Diner is located at 135 Main Street, Windsor, VT, on Facebook at Windsor Diner, and the phone number is 802-674-5555.
