Claremont, NH — The Stevens Cardinals (2-2) continue their winning ways Monday night against Newport (1-2) as they cruised to a 47-30 victory thanks to a big 16-2 third quarter.
Seniors Lucas Belisle and Mason Ferland picked up the slack for Stevens after a very slow start where the Cardinals almost finished the first quarter with more fouls than points before Mason scored before the buzzer sounded. Mason finished the first half with 10 of his 12 total points to negate the Tigers from taking a lead going into halftime. Belisle led the charge in the third quarter with 7 of his game high 18 points with tenacious offensive rebounding and pounding the paint with his size.
Junior Christian Forsythe also tied the game high with 18 points of his own. Junior Aaron Fellows was held to a season low 6 points which was unexpected from the breakout player who will make a run at the 1,000 point club before his high school career is over.
“I’d prefer us to come out with the defensive focus and attacking mentality offensive from the jump,” said Matthew Dancosse, Stevens head coach. “But it’s a process. We are just trying to get better every day. The end product is 32 minutes of that play style. But it’s hard to achieve”
