CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Department of Corrections has announced that Sarah Provencher was unanimously confirmed as the next Warden of the New Hampshire Correctional Facility for Women at the Dec. 20 Governor and Executive Council Meeting.
Provencher was nominated for the warden position by Gov. Sununu on Nov. 29. Provencher first entered the field of corrections in 2011 with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections and joined the New Hampshire department in 2015.
During her time at the New Hampshire Department of Corrections, Provencher has held a variety of positions beginning as a case counselor case manager, with subsequent promotions to the administrator of classifications and client records, and the administrator of programs positions. In 2019, Provencher was appointment as the deputy warden of the New Hampshire State Prison for Men.
“I am confident Deputy Warden Provencher will do an outstanding job in this role,” said Commissioner Helen Hanks. “With her depth of experience, she is well-equipped to continue the advancement of correctional practices and rehabilitative opportunities for women.”
Prior to joining the New Hampshire Department of Corrections, Provencher worked at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, MA, as an activities therapist and mental health professional. Provencher earned a Master of Science Degree in Psychology from Rivier University with minors in both sociology and social work.
Provencher will assume her position as Warden on Dec. 29, following the retirement of current Warden Nicole Plante. Warden Nicole Plante retires after a 23-year career with the department, where she started as a corrections officer and rose through the ranks, being appointed to the warden’s position in 2020.
