BURLINGTON, VT — More than 30 high school indoor track and field teams throughout the state were represented at the University of Vermont on Saturday, Dec. 23.
Green Mountain finished first among the local girls teams and tied for 7th overall in Division 2 with 21 points. Bellows Falls was next in 10th place with 18 points, Springfield followed in 13th (11 points) and Windsor placed 18th (6 points).
Green Mountain’s Sophia Cherubini earned a first-place finish among Division 2 competitors in high jump (4’5”) and Autumn Fales was 6th in the meter dash (8.05 seconds).
Bellows Falls’ Hadley Gleim and Desi Broadley finished second among Division 2 competitors in the 55-meter dash and the 3,000-meter run, respectively. Gleim set a personal record in the 55-meter (7.91 seconds) and Broadley completed the 3,000-meter in 12:05.40. Broadley also placed 3rd in Division 2 in the 55-meter hurdles in 11.34 seconds. Eryn Ross ran a personal best time in the 600-meter run (2:10.55) and Ava LaRoss set her personal record in the 55-meter dash (8.47).
Emma Simino scored all 6 points for Windsor with a 3rd place finish in the 600-meter run (2:03.86). Ella Donahue scored for Springfield by placing 6th in the 300-meter dash (49.45).
The top local team on the boys side was Springfield who placed 3rd in Division 2 with 35 points. Bellows Falls was next in 10th (6 points) and Green Mountain finished 13th (4 points).
Springfield earned just over half of its points in the 55-meter hurdles as Adam Sanborn earned 1st place in Division 2 (8.55 seconds) and Marshall Simpson was second in 9.32 seconds. Sanborn also earned 5th place finishes in high jump (5’7”) and long jump (17’8.75”).
Riley Tuttle scored 6 points for Bellows Falls with a 3rd place finish in shot put (36’3.5”), Forest Garvin earned four points for Green Mountain by placing 4th in shot put (33’9.25”) and Justin Draper sprinted to a 13th place finish in the 55-meter dash for Windsor in 7.13 seconds.
Bellows Falls also received an all-time personal record from Connor Stevens in the 300-meter dash and a season personal record from Jacob Stockman in the 55-meter dash.
Hartford won the Division 2 boys teams with 90 points and Rice earned 61 points to win the girls meet.
