NEWPORT, NH — In what has been a rivalry for several years, the last two seasons have seen the rival emerge as a must watch. The Stevens Cardinals (3-3) led the entire first half before giving up a lead to the Newport Tigers (2-3) on their way to a 53-49 victory. The Cardinals led 25-24 at half but the Tigers scored 20 points in the third quarter to a 44-38 lead heading into the fourth. The Tigers would sizzle out in the last frame as they only mustered 5 points while the Cardinals scored 15 to seal the game.
Freshman Owen Wilkinson outscored the entire Tigers offense by himself in the fourth quarter on his way to a team high of 15 points. Senior Devante Thompson scored 12 points, senior Mason Ferland scored 7 points, junior Jacon Davis scored 7 points and senior Lucas Belisle chipping in 6 points in a very balanced attack.
Juniors Aaron Fellows and Christian Forsythe led the Tigers with 20 and 19 points scored, respectfully. Fellows is 2nd in NHIAA DIII scoring at 18 points per game as he hopes to get recognized as a top player in the division when All-State selections are made.
