Springfield and Windsor compete at UVM meet

BURLINGTON, VT — More than two dozen indoor track and field teams wrapped up 2023 by competing at the University of Vermont (UVM) on Sunday, Dec. 31.

Springfield produced a strong showing on the boys side by finishing tied for third with 40 points. The Windsor boys placed 15th with 5.5 points.

Springfield had another strong showing in the hurdles with Adam Sanborn (8.58 seconds) and Marshall Simpson (9.31) taking the top two spots in Division 2 in the 55-meter hurdles. Sanborn was also victorious in long jump (18’10.75”) and added a 5th place finish in high jump (5’7”).

Springfield’s 4×200-meter relay team of Tristin Stagner, Simpson, Cole Tomberg and Carter Tanner added six points to their final score by placing third. Cooper Palmer scored the final two points for the Cosmos by placing 7th in the 600-meter run in 1:49.46.

Justin Draper scored the majority of Windsor’s points in the 55-meter dash, where he tied for 4th in 7.04 seconds. Eban Margolis recorded one point for the Yellow Jackets by placing 8th in the 1,000-meter run (3:24.08).

The Springfield girls placed 11th with 14 points and Windsor was close behind in 14th place with nine points.

Ella Donahue scored three in the 300-meter run (50.33 seconds) and added two more points in the 600-meter run (2:09.49). Erica Knudsen was close behind Donahue in the 600-meter run, earning one point for the Cosmos by finishing in 2:11.35. Donahue and Knudsen also factored into the other eight points Springfield earned as members of the 4×800-meter relay team. Donahue and Knudsen teamed up with Paige Austin and Kaylee Moore to place 2nd among scoring teams in 12:54.87.

Emma Simino earned five points for Windsor in the 600-meter run by finishing in 2:03.61. Brooklyn Currie scored the other four points for Windsor in high jump with a leap of 4’1.25.”

Hartford cruised to victory in the boys competition with 124.5 points and Burr & Burton earned the top spot amongst girls teams with 64 points. The next indoor track and field meet for high school teams in Vermont is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7, at UVM.
