Dixville Notch residents to vote at midnight

Since 1960, Dixville, New Hampshire has held U.S. Presidential Primary and General Election voting at midnight. In 2024, as Jan. 22 becomes Jan. 23, Dixville voters will once again cast their ballots at midnight, kicking off the historic First-in-the-Nation primary, with results being announced moments after voting concludes.

Voting has historically taken place in the famed Ballot Room at the Balsams’ Dix House, but as the resort is undergoing major renovations, the vote will take place in the Living Room at the Tillotson House, the prior home of former Balsams owner Neil Tillotson who brought the First-in-the-Nation vote to Dixville in 1960.

In long-held tradition, the voting area will be adorned with photos and memorabilia from previous First-in-the-Nation Midnight Votes as well as candidate visits to the Balsams.

Dixville Notch will be New Hampshire’s only community to cast its ballots at midnight.
