Springfield boys fall short to rival Windsor

WINDSOR, VT — The Springfield Cosmos (2-4) made a late run and made it interesting, but the Windsor Yellow Jackets (3-2) held on for a 63-54 victory in a rival game played in front of the Windsor home crowd on Wednesday night, Jan. 3.

Windsor led the first quarter 21-13 and 37-23 at halftime as it looked like the Yellow Jackets would run away with an easy victory, but Cosmos Head Coach Kraig Harlow and his team never gave up. The Cosmos scored 19 points in the fourth quarter led by junior James Gultekin who took over with 11 points in the quarter.

Springfield’s Gultekin finished the night with a game high of 23 points. Senior Luke Stocker pitched in with 11 points while sophomore Brady Gallant added 10 points.

Windsor Seniors Corey Lockwood and Brady Olmstead both had 19 points. Lockwood caught fire from behind the arc with five 3-point shots. Sophomore Noah Jenks continued his strong season as he chipped in with 14 points. Tanner Moody and Trevor LaGrow played solid defense and had many hustles that led to offensive transitions.

“James hit some big shots to help us make a run down 17 with four minutes to go,” said Harlow. “He also started dishing to his teammates on the break which was the reason we got so many quick points. He’s coming along great as we find our rhythm as a team.”
