NEW LONDON, NH — The value of art therapy speaks volumes, and it’s one of the reasons that Center for the Arts and New London Hospital teamed up to deck the halls — literally — with dozens of pieces of locally made art.
“Five walls throughout the facility will be adorned with a captivating array of artwork, providing patients, visitors, and staff the opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich creative talent of our neighbors,” said Timothy Lund, marketing and communications manager at New London Hospital. “New artwork will be on display throughout the year showcasing the work of local artists, with the aim of creating an environment that fosters healing, inspiration, and appreciation for the arts.”
Last year, Center for the Arts (CFA) announced the news of the partnership, saying that art can inspire, lift the spirit, and bring wonder to viewers of all ages, so the partnership was perfect match for both entities.
“This partnership was a no-brainer,” said Executive Director Dena Stahlheber. “New London Hospital is an excellent community establishment that has generously offered its wall space in a way that benefits the community and local artists in a harmonious collaboration. We are thrilled to be a part of this effort.”
New, diverse artwork will be displayed throughout the year, showcasing local artists’ work and aiming to create an environment that fosters healing, inspiration and appreciation for the arts.
Artwork is known to reduce cortisol levels, lowering stress. As a result, people tend to act and think more positively, which can be a good thing at a hospital. Participating in art, too, is known to help with anxiety and stress.
The art on the walls of New London Hospital is available for both enjoyment and purchase. For more information, visit centerfortheartsnh.org.
