Charles “Charlie” H. Clougherty CLAREMONT, NH -Charles “Charlie” Henry Clougherty, Jr, 85 years old, of Claremont, NH passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2024 with his favorite daughter by his side. The role of favorite child has been long disputed. Let this obituary serve as proof positive that this is the case. Charlie was born July 14, 1938 to Gladys (LaRiviere) and Charles H Clougherty, Sr. in Roxbury, Massachusetts. After graduating from Medfield High School in 1956, he went on to study at Wentworth Institute of Technology before returning to work in the family business at the Charles H. Clougherty Company in Medfield, MA. Charlie was the brother of the late Gladys Forsythe and Carol Dauphinee, and is survived by his sister Jean Ouellette of Uxbridge, MA. Charlie leaves six children: Charles H Clougherty III of Chester, VT, Franklin Clougherty (wife Lori) of Manchester, NH, Theresa Charbonneau (husband Joseph) of Bellingham, MA, Marie Hamel (husband Gregory) of Hooksett, NH, Timothy Clougherty of Hallwood, VA, and Jessie Herring (husband John) of Boston, MA. He was grandfather to fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, as well as an uncle to eight nieces and nephews. They all had a genuinely special place in his heart. Charlie had numerous and varied passions that he pursued throughout his life. These include piloting small aircraft, metal detecting, painting, model trains, and a lover of all things history. He was a gifted musician, playing in various bands on piano or banjo. He was a licensed auctioneer and estate dealer in several states in New England, as well as being the former president of the New Hampshire Auctioneers Association. In the year before his passing, he was proud to have completed the first draft of a crime novel. He was a prolific writer of short stories, poems, and cryptic illegible notes to self. Always a man with a quick wit and playful sense of humor, he loved to leave surprises throughout his home for his children to discover. Private services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are with Stringer Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 146 Broad Street, Claremont, NH 03743.
