Claremont Senior Center News

The Claremont Senior Center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The center offers (pool, card games, cribbage, puzzles, mahjong, knitting and quilting to name a few activities. Miracle Ear, blood drive and VNA Foot Clinic are also scheduled.

New members are always welcome to come enjoy the facility. One-month “trial” memberships are available. That way you can enjoy our programs and activities before you join us.

The Claremont Senior Center is located at 5 Acer Height Road.

Meals

Lunch is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays and reservations are required for both dine-in and takeout. Please call 603-678-0433 for reservations. The cost is $5 for members and $6 for non-members.

Activities

• A foot clinics will be held on Wednesday and Feb. 14 and 21. The clinics are sponsored by Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice and cost $30. Call 603-748-1731 to make an appointment.

• Bingo is held every Wednesday at 1 p.m. for seniors 55+. Purchase bingo cards by 12:45 p.m. and enjoy the concession stand until then. Twenty-dollar bills are not accepted.

• AARP will begin tax preparation beginning Friday. Call Audrey at 802-345-5415 to make an appointment now through April 12.

• Join cribbage on Tuesdays at 1 p.m. Mahjong is played Fridays at 1 p.m. The knitters group meets on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.

• “Wanna be” and new mahjong players are welcome. Interested to learn the game please come at 1 p.m., Fridays.

• Start the New Year off with the knitters group. Come by from 1 to 3 p.m., Fridays.

• The Women to Women group will meet Thursday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. All women are welcome to come and talk about any issues they are experiencing.

• An American Red Cross blood drive will be held Monday, Feb. 12, from noon to 5 p.m.

• Women’s pool is played on Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon. Men plan on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome.

• The next meeting for quilters is Monday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m.

• Line dancing is every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginners start and intermediate pick it up around 8:30. The cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members. Bring your own beverage and snack if you need.

• A Senior Men’s Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m., Feb. 26. Cost for members is $2 and non-members is $3.

• Tai chi began Thursday, Jan. 24, and will run for another five weeks. Class starts at 9:15 a.m. and is $15 per session with the goal of improving alignment, balance, looseness and awareness through soft practice and relaxation. The cost for all six sessions is $55 for members and $65 for non-members.

Chair Yoga Returns at 9:30 a.m., Monday. Classes are free for members and $5 for non-members. Call or come in to sign up 603-543-5998.

• Claremont Senior Center Fundraiser Bingo will be on Friday. Doors open at 5 p.m. and games start at 6:30 p.m. Games played include 10 regular games, 2-2 part games, three specials, and winner take all. The fundraiser is open to the public but you must be 18 years of age to play. Concessions are available through intermission. Bring family and friends for an evening of fun. • The next membership meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 1 p.m. This will give you a chance to hear what is happening with the center and have a chance to win a free lunch.
