Lady Knights sweep season series against Sunapee

Eagle Tims Staff
SUNAPEE, N.H. — Mount Royal Academy’s Lady Knights (6-8) played stifling defense and held the visiting Lakers to just 10 points on Senior Night, Thursday. Feb. 1. The final score was 55-10.

The Lakers were unable to score in the first quarter as the Knights ran up a 15-point lead.

Prior to the game, the Lady Knights learned they would be without their beloved teacher and assistant coach, Mr. Whitty, for the remainder of the season. Coach Whitty is still recovering from a cardiac arrest in December. He won’t be with them on the sidelines but will be in the classroom.

“Coach Whitty made a total gift of self for the girls, and they responded in kind with their effort throughout the night. He gave it everything he had for us, and we look to do the same for him down the stretch,” said Head Coach Derek Tremblay.

Katherine McMenaman caught fire in the third quarter, scoring 10 of the Knights’ 21 points, pushing the lead to 50-9.

Emma Reed paced the Lakers, scoring six points.

The Lady Knights traveled to Hinsdale on Friday, Feb. 2, and Sunapee’s Lakers look to hit the win column at Pittsfield next Wednesday, Feb. 7.
