Man hits 84-year-old with car; patient dies from injuries
On Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at approximately 5:24 p.m. Sergeant Mayer, Chief Bemis and Officers LaBelle, Raymond and Tuttle responded to the Square in the area of Town Hall for report of a car versus a pedestrian.
Upon arriving on scene, the officers administered first aid with the assistance of Bellows Falls Fire Department until Walpole Ambulance arrived on scene.
Andrew Lelpi, 32, of Westminster, Vermont hit Gerald Burrell, 84, with an automobile, who was then transported by Walpole Ambulance to Springfield Hospital where the patient was then airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
The victim succumbed to his injuries on Jan. 8.
Parent acting erratic at school pick-up
On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Bellows Falls Police Department responded to the middle school on School Street in the Village of Bellows Falls, Vermont for a report of a parent picking a student up that was acting in a disorderly manner. After investigation by the Bellows Falls Police Department, Melissa Brown of Bellows Falls was issued a citation to appear at Windham Superior Court Criminal Division to answer for the charge of disorderly conduct.
Man charged with aggravated assault
On Sunday, Feb. 11, the Bellows Falls Police Department responded to a 911 call and upon investigation it was revealed James McMahon, 36, committed the crime of aggravated assault and was found to be attempting to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
McMahon was arrested at the scene and transported to the Bellows Falls Police Department for processing. At the completion of processing, McMahon was issued a criminal citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Windham Criminal Division on Feb. 12, to answer the charges. McMahon was transported to Southern State Correctional Facility and held on $500 bail.
Belligerent man arrested for causing disturbance
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, police officers with the Bellows Falls Police Department arrested Jeffrey Matteson, 28, for violating his conditions of release and unlawful mischief.
At approximately 10:20 p.m., Officers Raymond and Lawrence responded to Atkinson Street for a male who was reportedly causing a disturbance. After subsequent investigation, Matteson was found to be in violation of his conditions of release and was arrested at the scene.
While Matteson was being transported to the Bellows Falls Police Department, he continued to be belligerent and dispersed personal bodily fluids throughout the officer’s patrol vehicle and holding cell. He was then transported to Southern State Correctional Facility where he was held on $200 bail.
