Josephine Jewell

Josephine Jewell CORNISH, NH -It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Josephine Jewell. She passed on June 27, 2024 at home, as she wished, surrounded by her family. She was born on March 29, 1932 to Paul and Isabella (Clow) Tewksbury in Cornish NH, where she resided for the remainder of her 92 years. She attended Cornish schools and graduated from Windsor High School in 1950. On July 15th of that same year, she married the love of her life Milton Jewell and she devoted herself to creating a warm and nurturing home for their five children, who were the center of her universe. Her love knew no bounds and her commitment to her family’s happiness was evident in every homemade meal, her strong support, and every comforting hug. She played a critical role in the family business, keeping the books and fulfilling other duties as needed. She and her husband were some of the pioneers that cut the local snowmobile trails and built the first “warming huts” in the area. She was a very active member of the Blow-Me-Down Snowriders for many years, as well as a member of the Lioness Club in Claremont, NH and a lifetime member of the Cornish Grange. She enjoyed baking, maintaining her pool and yard, snowmobiling, camping in their RV, dancing, and playing cards and games. Her true passion was time with her family and friends and entertaining, the more the merrier. She touched many lives and earned the highest respect from all. She is survived by two sons, Max Jewell and his companion Kim Dyke of Thetford, VT, Calvin Jewell and his wife, Hayley Cummings of Cornish, NH; three daughters, Lea LaClair and her husband, Don of Cornish, NH, Diana Webb of Claremont, NH and Anita Porter and her husband, Tom of Claremont, NH, ten grandchildren, Adam Jewell, Vincent Jewell, Christopher Jewell, Matthew LaClair, Brian LaClair, Jeff LaClair, Abby Roy, Nicholas Jewell, Chelsea Jewell and Cody Thornton, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her sister, Elsie Johnson, brother Eugene Tewksbury, Rowland Tewksbury, Louis (Pit) Tewksbury, Raymond Tewksbury, and Tharon Tewksbury, her son-in-law Norman Webb and granddaughter, Jennifer Jo Webb. The family expresses its appreciation for the loving care given by her caregivers, Angela Leslie, Tina Downing, Brenda Jatko and the support provided by the Bayada Hospice team. Visiting hours will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad Street in Claremont on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from noon to 2:00pm with a service at 2:00pm with Theresa Chabot officiating. Burial will be held in the Edminster Cemetery in Cornish. A reception will follow at the Claremont Elks Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cornish Rescue Squad, P.O.
