CLAREMONT, NH –Doris McCusker of Greeneville, TN, formerly of Claremont, NH, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on July 27, 2024.
Dot, as she was known to her friends and family, was born in Claremont, NH in 1931, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Provencher) Lepitre. She is predeceased by her husband, James F. McCusker Jr. and her siblings, Edmund Lepitre, Albert Lepitre, Irene West, and Germaine Devenger.
She had a love for learning and graduated from Stevens High School, Claremont, NH in 1949, and later in life took a variety of college courses. Dot had a knack for numbers, and eventually found her way to Marson’s Army and Navy Store in Claremont where she was the bookkeeper for 31 years before retiring to Florida.
Dot loved a good road trip and her husband was fond of driving. In retirement, they traversed much of the United States with a small camper in tow, followed by a long trip to Ireland and France tracing their family histories. She would later take road trips with her daughters and granddaughter across Southern Italy, the California Coast and the Pacific Northwest.
Doris is survived by and will be dearly missed by her loving children, Debra McCusker (Robert Maker) of Loudon, TN, Sandra Wattendorf (George) of Sutton, NH, and James F. McCusker, III of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Heather Yurek of Chapel Hill, NC, Theodore James Yurek of Burlington, NC, Matthew LaRoy of Oswego, IL, and James F. McCusker IV of Fort Walton Beach, FL; great grandson, Ty Yurek of Manitou Springs, CO; sisters-in-law Angela Lepitre and Clare Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.
An active member of her community, Dot will be remembered for the lives she touched by tutoring adult reading and math, and spending many years volunteering with Gifts for Kids, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, and the Greeneville Public Library Annual Book Sale. Always interested in learning something new, she took up quilting in her 70’s and enjoyed the hours she spent with the Newcomer Quilters making quilts to donate for many causes.
A family memorial will be held in Claremont, New Hampshire next summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be made to the MS Association of America, Donor Relations, 375 Kings Highway North, Suite B, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 or online.
