CLAREMONT, N.H. — An accident involving a dump truck and a pair of cars resulted in minor injuries and Washington Street closed for about two hours on Monday.

According to a report by the Claremont Fire Department, at 11:28 a.m. fire personnel were dispatched to the area of 875 Washington Street for a report of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.

At 11:33 a.m., Car 1, Ladder 1 and Rescue 1 arrived at the scene. There were three vehicles involved in the crash, with all sustaining heavy damage and the dump truck tipping on its side. All of the vehicle occupants were able to self-extricate with assistance by fire personnel, and they were evaluated with Golden Cross. While they sustained minor injuries, the occupants refused to be taken to the hospital.

Chief Jim Chamberlain said that this was not a city dump truck, but rather a private vehicle. Police Chief Brad Wilmot said on Monday that no charges were filed in the incident.

Chamberlain explained that when they arrived at the scene, an adult occupant needed assistance getting out of his vehicle.

“We put one of our small ladders up on the vehicle and were able to get the patient out of the driver’s side window, which was on its side,” Chamberlain said. “We got them up on the side of the vehicle and they climbed down our ladder.”

Washington Street was closed to all traffic and re-opened at 1:38 p.m. Chamberlain said this is a high-speed area and one of the main arteries in and out of the city, so they had to close lanes and divert traffic to Old Newport Road until the area was cleaned up of debris and the vehicles were removed.

Vehicles were removed by Reed Truck Service Heavy Recovery and Dexter Towing.
