BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — A Claremont man and a Newport woman were arrested for their connections to a stolen vehicle in the Bellows Falls village of Rockingham, Vermont.
According to a report by the Bellows Falls Police Department, James O. Jones, 37, of Claremont, was arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property an Operation without Owners Consent.
Schiloe M. Smith, 29, of Newport, was arrested on a Fugitive from Justice charge out of New Hampshire, pertaining to theft by unauthorized taking of an item worth more than $1,500.
Bellows Falls Police reported that on July 21, at about 2:30 a.m., officers discovered a stolen vehicle driving in Rockingham Street. The vehicle pulled into what was formerly the Hetty Green Motel, and officers made contact with Jones, who was driving the vehicle.
After what was described as a “brief investigation,” Jones was given a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court-Windham Criminal Division on September 17 at 8:30 a.m.
Through the investigation, police learned that Smith was involved in taking the vehicle. She had an extraditable warrant from New Hampshire.
Police learned that she was staying at the Rodeway Inn in Rockingham, and officers went there and placed Smith under arrest. She was taken to the Bellows Falls Police Department for processing and given a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court-Windham Criminal Division on July 22 at 12:30 p.m. to answer the charge of Fugitive from Justice. Smith was held in lieu of the $5,000 bail at the Southern State Correctional Facility.
Lebanon (New Hampshire) Police Department assisted Bellows Falls Police Department. J&M Auto also assisted the department with handling the vehicle.
