Concert series fundraiser at Guilford Church, Aug. 11 

GUILFORD, Vt. — Musical performances featuring members and friends of the congregation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Guilford Community Church sanctuary in a benefit variety show, the fifth performance in the 2023-2024 Concert Series.  

According to organizers, the singers and instrumentalists will perform vocal or instrumental solos and ensembles across many genres and time periods. Brad Amidon and Michelle Markus, two professional musicians from the Boston area, will showcase their talents along with gifted musicians associated with the congregation. 

Brad Amidon will sing “Welcome to the Renaissance” the opening song from the Broadway musical “Something Rotten.” Clarinetist Michelle Markus from Boston will perform Canzonetta by Gabriel Pierné, accompanied by pianist Rachel Johnson. Connie Vial Green on flute and Rachel Johnson, piano, will play two movements of Teleman’s Sonata in G Major. A camp song medley will be sung by Terry Sylvester and Sue Owings. “Skip-A-Beat” Parts 1-3 will be performed by Kachina Lee-Autenrieth, Barbara Lee and Lorianna Weathers on bass xylophone. “One Note Off” will be performed by vocal soloist Fred Breunig. 

Andy Davis and his fiddle/accordion/piano group will perform medleys of Quebecois dance tunes and a waltz. Mary Alice, Peter and Arthur Amidon, known for their traditional music and dance performances will perform “One Song”. Katharine Breunig will sing a vocal solo entitled “Happiest of Times with Dinah”. Carole Crompton will contribute a vocal solo. Mary Grove will present the first movement of a piano solo written by her late mother: Sonata in F# minor Movement 1 by Brooke Triplett Grove. Veteran pianist and organist Bill McKim will play Rachmaninoff’s 2 Portraits Etudes. Pianist Rachel Johnson will perform “Night and Day” by Cole Porter and a solo by Peter Nero. Julie Peterson and Jack Wesley will contribute a vocal duet “Over the Rainbow” by H. Arlen and Y. Harburg with piano accompaniment.   

Tickets will only be available at the door with a suggested donation (cash or check) of $15-$25 for adults; $5 for children and students. Complimentary refreshments will be served following the concert downstairs in the Zeller Hall.  

All proceeds from the concert series benefit the church, which is handicapped accessible, air conditioned and actively supports numerous local programs and organizations serving the wider community.
