Margaret (Hoisington) Rogers, 92, of Cornish, New Hampshire died July 26 at Valley Terrace Assisted Living Facility in White River Junction, Vermont. She was born in Windsor, Vermont to Harold and Isabel (Wright) Hoisington. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Rogers.
Margaret grew up with a large family on a farm in Hartland, Vermont. While her childhood was short of material possessions, she recalled that they had a wealth of love and happiness. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Hartland, and graduated Hartford High School in 1950. While in high school she was a member of the high school band, orchestra, and choir. She attended several music festivals where she was concert-mistress of the orchestra playing her violin.
She married Richard Rogers in 1951, and they lived for a short while in Cornish Flat before moving to East Road where they spent the remainder of their 65 years together. She worked several years at the Twin Cedar Nursery School in Meriden, NH, (aka “Grammy Bea’s”) where she shared her love of music playing the harpsicord and teaching childrens’ songs. She later went to work as a unit secretary at Mt. Ascutney Hospital where she worked for over 25 years before her retirement.
She is survived by her children Bruce and wife Ann (Abbott) Rogers of Plainfield, NH; Russell Rogers and partner Brenda Barrows of Lebanon, NH; Julie (Rogers) and husband John Hatley of Monroe, NH; grandchildren Brent Ackley, Erin Ackley, Greg Rogers and wife Terra of Plainfield, NH and Betsy Williams and husband Rob of Plainfield, NH. She is survived by a sister, Gretchen Hadlock of Plainfield, NH, and predeceased by sisters Helen Scruton, Rebecca Meyette and brothers Dennis, Russell, Freeman and Charles Hoisington. She is predeceased by her son Barry.
Calling hours will be held at 5 p.m. on August 14, 2024 at Stringer Funeral Home in Claremont, NH. A short memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Music Drives Us Grant Program (Musicdrivesus.org), Bayada Hospice or the charity of your choice.
