SAXTONS RIVER, Vt. — On Saturday, Aug. 10, Saxtons River hosted the Sixth Annual Vincenzo 4-Miler event. This special run/walk commemorates Vincenzo Ruggiero, who sadly passed away in a car accident at just 15 years old.
This year’s race saw an incredible display of talent, with 14-year-old Jacob Kissell taking the top spot and Adalia Ruggiero, Vincenzo’s younger sister, finishing as the top female runner.
The event held significant meaning as it fell just one day before what would have been Vincenzo’s 21st birthday on Aug. 11, 2024.
Each year, this heartfelt gathering not only celebrates Vincenzo’s memory but also raises funds for a scholarship in his honor. The scholarship is awarded annually to local graduates, ensuring that Vincenzo’s legacy lives on through supporting the educational pursuits of others.
Jim Ruggiero, Vincenzo’s father, along with dedicated family members and friends all pour their hearts into organizing this event. The post-race barbecue they host truly brings everyone together for a day filled with remembrance, love and community spirit. Vincenzo continues to live on in the lives of many.
