CLAREMONT, N.H. — Republican District 2 Congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams dropped by the Eagle Times recently as part of her travels on the campaign trail.

Williams is a resident of Weare and was born in communist China. She lived there for 24 years before coming to the U.S. She explained that she came to the country with nothing and is a living embodiment of the American Dream in action.

“I am running to save it,” Williams said. “With record inflation, the border crisis and lots of issues going on in our country, and young people tell me that they feel they can probably not live the American Dream.”

Williams was born into poverty and said she was brainwashed by communism. She went to law school in search of the truth and hopefully change her home nation’s society. She values rule of law and under a one-party dictatorship she couldn’t achieve that. She decided to escape by coming to the U.S. as a graduate student 36 years ago.

“It was the best decision I’ve ever made,” Williams said. “This is the best country on Earth.”

Williams met her husband when she couldn’t speak English. They dated for two years and got married, bought a house, and raised three children. She was not political for 20 years, she said, as she started a small business. Williams felt the country was moving the wrong direction and she saw it as her duty to get involved as a grassroots mother against common core and gun control. She has been telling her story for 11 years, and said she doesn’t want this country to turn into the one she left.

“I want to also serve the people,” she said. “I feel like our government, our politicians, have forgotten the people who elect them. I hope they can give me a fresh look and say, ‘who is this woman? I like her story. I like her message. I trust her to represent me in D.C. I am the grassroots candidate.”

The top issue Williams is running on, she said, is inflation and the economy. It is record high and the national debt continues to climb. Hill is also worried about the border security, and being so close to Boston — a sanctuary city. Hill welcomes legal immigration with open arms as she knows from experience how beneficial and hardworking immigrants can be. However, it cannot be on the backs of U.S. taxpayers.

“It is also a national security threat, with fentanyl and drugs,” she said. “Fifty-thousand Chinese nationals crossed and they are not our friendly country. They want to take over United States as the number one dominant power. It is communist dictatorship trying to do harm to us.”

She also values free speech, saying that the world cannot be like “1984.” Williams said if you cannot ask a question freely, you’re just buying into propaganda. She called it dangerous to the civil society.

“Who are doing those things in our country?” Williams said. “It is federal agencies under Biden and Kamala Harris.”

Williams has 52 state legislator endorsements, and has been on Fox News, Newsmax and local interviews like at the Eagle Times. Williams said she is not very partisan and likes interact with constituents from both sides of the aisle.

Williams does not like the divisiveness that is ever apparent. However, she said 40% of voters are not affiliated with any party, and Williams hopes people will see her messages as being representative of their views.

“It would be my honor to represent the people in my district,” Williams said.
