CLAREMONT, N.H. — A juvenile crashed his mountain bike on Arrowhead Recreation Area on Saturday, with Claremont Fire Chief Jim Chamberlain saying that the patient was transported to the hospital for his injuries.
“He sustained a pretty significant lower extremity injury,” Chamberlain said. “I can’t go into further specifics because he is a juvenile.”
The Claremont Fire Department issued a release stating that at 2:36 p.m. on Saturday, City of Claremont Safety Services was toned to 18 Robert A. Easter Way for an individual who crashed a mountain bike.
Engine 3 and Utility 3 arrived at the scene at 2:40 p.m. and made their way up the main trail to assist the patient. Members of the Claremont Fire Department made contact and worked to assess and treat the patient. It was reported that he received moderate injuries due to the crash.
Chamberlain said members from the The Wheelhouse bike shop went up and brought the patient to an accessible area. This made it much easier for the Claremont Fire Department personnel to assist and get to the patient via their UTV for patient assessment and care. The patient was escorted down the mountain on Utility 3, and transferred to Golden Cross Ambulance for transport to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
“Based upon what the initial injuries were looking like, they were brought to the higher level of care,” said Golden Cross Owner Dale Girard.
Units were placed back in service at 3:08 p.m.
