Claremont Senior Center news 

CLAREMONT, N.H. — The Claremont Senior Center is open every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. There are many activities including pool, card games, cribbage, puzzles, mahjong, knitting and quilting, to name a few. A Miracle Ear, blood drive and VNA Foot Clinic are also scheduled.   

The Claremont Senior Center will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2 to celebrate Labor Day.  

The phone number to reserve lunch is 603-678-0433. There are two options for meals, drive-thru and dine-in. Reservations are required for both by 10:30 a.m. Dine-in meals begin at 11:45 a.m. and drive-thru pick-up at noon. The meal for Tuesday, Sept. 3 is shepherd’s pie and a key lime dessert cup. The meal for Thursday, Sept. 5 is soup, ham and cheese mini subs and zucchini cake with cream cheese frosting. The price is $5 for members and $6 for non-members. Meals are subject to change.   

Mark your calendar for the Winter Wonderland Craft Fair on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To reserve a table, call Marilyn at 603-477-8868.  

Come enjoy a night out Friday, Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the beautiful event room at the Claremont Senior Center. Enjoy dancing, socializing or just listening to live music by Gerry Grimo and the East Bay Dance Combo. Large dance floor and comfortable round table seating. Bring a friend, make new friends. Light snacks and water provided. BYOB, open to the public. A donation of $10 is being asked per person. Call 603-543-5998 for more information. 

September Foot Clinics will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5 and the following Wednesdays: Sept. 11, Sept. 18, and Sept. 25. Sponsored by Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice with a charge of $30. You must call 603-748-1731 to make an appointment with them.   

Bingo is held every Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday afternoon bingo is a popular activity for our seniors (must be at least 55 years old).  You must purchase your cards by 12:45 and the games begin at 1 p.m. Small bills such as 1’s, 5’s and 10’s are very much appreciated. Concession is opened just until bingo starts to purchase your lunch.  We average around 30 to 40 seniors who love to attend, visit with their friends and try to win a little extra money.   

Want to show your cribbage skills with others? Come and join other enthusiastic players on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.   

“Wannabe” mahjong newcomers are welcome. Interested in learning the game? Please come on Fridays at 1 p.m.    

Come show off your knitting masterpieces! We are excited to see them so come by on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. and have a good time.    

The Women to Women group meets Thursday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.  All women are welcome to come and talk about any issues they are experiencing.   

An American Red Cross blood drive will be Monday, Sept. 30 from noon to 5 p.m. Please call 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) to schedule appointment.  

Do you want to be part of the game of pool? Ladies play every Monday from 9 a.m. to noon. Men play Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.  

Come tell your story with the quilting skills you want to share with other quilters. You don’t have to be a quilter to attend; bring your own project. The next meeting is Monday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m.  

The wait is finally over with the return of Chair Yoga on Mondays beginning Sept. 16 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. This will be a weekly session. Members are free and non-members $5. Come out and bring a bonus person with you.  Sign-up sheet is in the lobby.  

Bring your dancing feet every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginners line dance begins from 7 to 8:30 and then intermediate dancing from 8:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $3 for members (bring your card) and $5 for non- members. One price will give you both beginner and intermediate sessions. Bring your own beverage and a snack if you need one.  

The next tai chi class will be on Wednesday, Sept. 4 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. We will be changing to a monthly charge as it will continue monthly. For members the cost is $40, non-members is $50 and weekly walk-ins will be $15. If you are doing payments monthly, you need to pay at the beginning of each month or do weekly until the beginning of the following month.     

The next Claremont Senior Center Fundraiser Bingo will be Friday, Sept. 13.  Doors open at 4:30 p.m., games start at 6 p.m. There are 10 regular games, three specials, and one winner takes all. This event is open to the public, must be 18 years of age to play. Concessions are available through intermission. 

We have two pingpong tables and want to see if there are individuals or groups interested in using them. There is a sign- up sheet in the Senior Center lobby. Come in and let us know or call Cheryl at 603-543-5998 for more information.     

The next membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 1 p.m. This will give you a chance to hear what is happening with the center and have a chance to win a free lunch.    

New members are always welcome to come enjoy the facility. You can sign up for a “one- month trial membership,” that way you can enjoy our programs and activities before you join us.
