NEWPORT, NH –Gary Douglas Roberts, 68 of Newport, NH, died peacefully in his home on August 27th, 2024. He was born to Arthur G. Roberts & Louise M. (Weiss) Roberts in Kingston, PA.
Gary was raised in the Back Mountain PA area and attended the Dallas area schools. He graduated from the West Side Vocational Technical School in 1974 with certifications in welding and sheet metal trades. In 1980 he graduated from Williamsport area Community College with an associate degree in tooling technology. Upon his graduation, he was employed by DuPont/Berg Electronics and earned his Pennsylvania Journeyman Certification as a Tool Maker in 1983.
In 1987 he moved to New Hampshire and worked in the Greater Boston area for Digital Equipment Corporation at “The Mill” in Maynard, MA and several “DEC” locations around the I-495 beltway. While employed in the computer industry he collaborated with engineers on dozens of projects resulting in US patents being awarded to this organization. In addition he attended U-Mass Lowell full time for 18 months on a corporate grant earning additional college credits used towards obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Management.
He later found new opportunities in Bristol, NH where he met Gerri, his future wife. They married in 1996 and raised two wonderful children. With the support of his family, he graduated Magna cum Laude from Granite State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering Management in 2006.
In pursuit of work their family moved to Newton Township, PA in 2009 where they lived for over a decade. He returned to New Hampshire to be near his friends and family again in the summer on 2020 and was last employed by Timken Aerospace until he retired.
Gary was proudly promoted to “Grampa” in Spring of 2023 with the birth of his loveable grandson. He enjoyed motorcycle rides through the mountains of New Hampshire, exploring nature trains with friends and family in his Side-by-Side, swimming, target shooting, and e-bike riding on the rail trail. He enjoyed the companionship of many dogs through the years.
He was predeceased by his father Arthur.
His surviving family members include: his loving wife of 28 years, Gerri (Reilly) Roberts, daughter Katherine (Roberts) and her husband Adam Rose and their son, his son Ryan Roberts, mother Louise Roberts, brothers: Arthur Roberts and his wife Darlene, and Charles Roberts and his wife Faythe; many nieces and nephews, great nieces, and their families.
Calling hours will be held from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Newport, NH, with a funeral service beginning at 5:30 pm.
