CLAREMONT, N.H. — The people had their say, and at the next Claremont City Council meeting the name of the new dog park at Moody Park will be revealed after residents were given the chance to vote on their favorite.
According to Parks and Recreation Director Justin Martin, the people of Claremont voted on four finalists that included Moody Bark and Moody Park; Paws in the Mood at Moody Park; Barking Lot at Moody Park; and Canine Commons at Moody Park. These names were chosen after the public was able to send their suggested names to the Parks and Recreation Department earlier in the summer. The voting ended on Aug. 30.
“Of these four, we will take the most voted on name and present to the city council to approve as the official name of the Moody Park dog park,” Martin said.
Martin explained that the naming of the dog park was left to the public to choose after it was completed this summer. The budget for the 130 by 90-foot park was $64,000, with funds coming from the American Rescue Plan Act. There is fencing and a “woof fiber” surface, which is the park’s base layer. There are also amenities that include chutes, bridges, walkways, ramps, a doggy water fountain and other items for both small and large dogs. It is fenced and gated and meant for pet owners to have a safe place to take their dogs for some play and exercise.
This project was in conjunction with the 2017 Claremont City Master Plan and followed a community survey analysis that recommended that city resources be used to improve and maintain Moody Park.
The Claremont City Council meets on Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m.
