Newport boys beat visiting Monadnock and Fall Mountain to open the cross-country season at a home meet at the Corbin Covered Bridge.
Newport finishers: Bryce Palmer, fourth; John Wilkinson, fifth; Travis Avery, seventh; Michael Bohn, eighth; Lukas Pitta, ninth; and Bentley Waterman, 11th.
Winners of boy’s race: Peyton Joslin of Monadnock in a time of 17:56.
No girls team winner
Top girl’s finisher: Jenna Fillion of Fall Mountain in a time of 20:13.
Monadnock won the boys middle school meet.
