CLAREMONT, N.H. — Sharon Dickey has an adventure to the Big Apple coming up, and it was all on a whim.
After a call for New York Fashion Week hairstylists came through on a hairdresser Facebook group, Dickey decided to go for it. Little did she know she would be selected.
“It’s quite the opportunity and funny because I’m nearing the end of my career,” said Dickey, who is a stylist and owner at Salon 24 on Pleasant Street in Claremont. “You know, I feel like that NFL player that’s been in the league for 13 years and finally made the Super Bowl. That’s kind of the way I feel. It’s a great way to make new connections and that’s why I want to do this. You never know who you’re going to meet or where this job will take you.”
During her eight days in New York City, Dickey will be lending a hand as an assistant during Hair Couture New York Fashion Week, where hair, makeup and nails are judged. The winning look appears on the cover of Vogue magazine.
When she’s not participating in the Hair Couture challenge, Dickey will be attending seminars and classes from some of the top professionals in New York and the nation.
“It’s just really cool. It’s going to be such an amazing experience. Like I said, the people that I’m going to meet; designers and models,” she said. “When we’re not doing hair, we can go to the fashion shows and we get in for free.”
Having opened Salon 24 eight years ago, Dickey is no rookie. While living in Bangor, Maine, Dickey also opened a hair salon there that she eventually sold during COVID.
She’s passionate about her profession and attending New York Fashion Week but has had to fundraise for the trip. Thanks to special clients like the folks at Town & Country Realty, she’s ready for the Big City.
“I’d like to thank my clients and my family,” said Dickey.
