CLAREMONT, N.H. — The Eagle Times was recently recognized for hard work and devotion to local journalism, as it was honored as a Distinguished Newspaper by the New England Newspaper and Press Association.
“Winning an NENPA award recognizes the Eagle Times as a small, hyper-local newspaper doing big things,” said Eagle Times General Manager Katlyn Proctor. “Our small but mighty team works exceptionally hard to produce the daily paper, which now stands out amongst its peers as an award-winning publication.”
The award was presented on Saturday at the New England Newspaper Conference at the Omni Providence, which was a put on by the New England Newspaper and Press Association and the New York Press Association. This was the first ever joint venture between the two associations, which took place from Sept. 19 to 21.
The conference included presentations by industry leaders and experts, as well as the award ceremony. The ceremony included New England Newspaper of the Year, Publick Occurrences, Allan B. Rogers Editorial Award, the New England First Amendment Award, AP Sevellon Brown New England Journalist of the Year Award, Bob Wallack Community Journalism Award and the Cornerstone Award.
This award put the Eagle Times as the runner up for Newspaper of the Year in the “Sunday Edition, small circulation” category.
In a coverage area full of small communities, local journalism is vital for people to know what is going on in their towns and cities. The Eagle Times may have a small staff, but there is no question that they care dearly about their product. The newspaper has a focus of being sure readers are up to speed with timely, accurately reported information.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the team’s efforts: Sydney McAllister on graphic design, Virginia Drye on circulation, and Bob Martin as the newspaper’s only staff reporter,” Proctor said. “I’d be remiss if I didn’t also shout out Ginny Gosselin, Brett Kellerman and owner, Jay Lucas.”
The Eagle Times publishes in print on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. There is an e-edition on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, as well as other stories posted each day on the website.
