KEENE, NH– Marjorie Ruth Judge died peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Marge was born on April 17, 1935, in Clinton, MI to Clyde and Maude Greenfield. Marge was the youngest of seven siblings (four older brothers and two older sisters). She grew up in Clinton, MI and went to Clinton High School where she met the love of her life Thomas Judge, and they were married for 65 wonderful years.
Marge received her BS degree from Eastern Michigan University and continued her education to receive a Master’s in Education. After graduation, she worked as a teacher and shortly thereafter started a family with Tom outside of Detroit. After a few years, they decided to venture out east and raise a family in Newtown, Connecticut. There she spent 35 years in education as a music teacher at Monroe Elementary School.
She was a woman who loved to be involved in her community. She was a talented singer and sang in various chorale groups in both Connecticut and New Hampshire, such as the Sunapee Singers and Waterbury Chorale. Marge was also very active in church, both the Newtown Congregational Church in Newtown, CT and the South Congregational Church in Newport, NH where she enjoyed bell choir, choir and working at the church fairs. She was usually the chosen soloist for the church choir, and you would understand after hearing her beautiful voice. Marge was quite the musical talent always playing the piano for different events and she especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren during the Christmas season. When she was teaching at Monroe, she would put on musical plays with the students, and we can still remember “Sunshine Lollipop” as one of the favorites; her students adored her.
When she retired up in Perkins Pond, Sunapee, NH she became an amazing quilt maker, where she donated quilts to the church fairs. Our families were the lucky recipients of so many beautiful quilts and I know she made many other quilts for her friends and other grandbabies.
She was so excited and proud to become a member in PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) a women’s group where they help support young women) and loved meeting such nice women in the area of Sunapee, NH. One of her passions was music and she became an integral part of organizing renowned musicians to come to New London to perform for the town.
Marge was known by her family and friends as a great cook and baker. Her cinnamon rolls were the best around town, and she would make so many during the holidays to give to many friends.
Both Marge and Tom enjoyed a wonderful retirement living on Perkins Pond in Sunapee, NH. During their retirement, they were adventurers and were very fortunate to travel around the world.
But most of all she loved entertaining and spending quality time with her family when they came to visit. She adored her grandchildren, Trey, Julia and Haley and would go above and beyond making everything as special as possible for them when they visited. She would take them berry picking, jelly making, baking with them, rides on the tractor, and so much more.
Marge will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. We will all dearly miss her beautiful smile, her inspiration to “do your best, be your best”, and her unconditional love, and the great memories we shared.
Marge is survived by her children Laura Judge (Lisa Eaton) of Walpole, NH, Leslie Judge Trudell (George Trudell) of Newtown, CT and grandchildren, Trey of Stamford, CT, Julia (Alexander Gonzales) of Williamsburg Brooklyn, NY and Haley Trudell of Irvine, CA. Marge is also survived by over 20 nieces and nephews that live in Texas, Michigan, Illinois, Arizona, and North Carolina. She also is survived by one brother-in-law, Don Corwin, 102 years of age. Marge is predeceased by husband Thomas Judge, daughter Julia Judge, parents Clyde and Maude Greenfield, and her siblings, Mary, Ted, Charles, Wilbur, Jeanette and Jack.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at South Congregational Church, 20 Church Street, Newport, NH. Another memorial service will be held in Clinton, MI in May.
