UNITY, NH– Karen Mae Davis (73), of Unity, NH passed peacefully at Sullivan County Healthcare September 16, 2024, following a period of declining health.
Karen was the youngest of four children born May 11,1951, to David and Bertha Kingsbury, North Springfield, VT. Karen was a member of the SHS Class of 1969, and graduated with an Associates Degree from Nathaniel Hawthorne College in later years.
As a teenager, Karen had the joy and pride of being one of the first employees of the A&W in Springfield, VT. She mentioned many times how much fun it was working there. Her working career later included several years for the City of Claremont. However, her greatest achievement in her professional life was at Daniels Construction in Ascutney, VT where she advanced to Vice President of Finance and remained for 26 years before retirement.
Karen married the love of her life Russell W. Davis Nov. 21,1970. Together they shared their first home in Charlestown, NH and then settled in Unity, NH where they built their forever home and raised their family. They soon became active members of the community. Along with rearing her family and working full time, Karen spent hours keeping an immaculate and well-manicured yard full of flowerbeds, rock formations, animal feeders and vegetable gardens that she lovingly groomed. Her talents and creativity were endless in her personal and professional life. However, the love and devotion to her husband and family were paramount to her. Whether it was supporting the family hobbies or involvement in school activities, she and Russ met every opportunity, need or challenge, together. When her husband passed away in 2021, she was left deeply affected even with the wonderful support and love of her family.
Besides her parents Karen was predeceased by her husband Russell of 51 years, her brother Charles Kingsbury, brother-in-law Walt “Brownie” Brown, and sister in laws Donna and Teddy Kingsbury. Karen is survived by her sister Rachel Brown and brother Jonathan; sister in laws Carol VonMaluski and Barbara (John) Antoniewich; three children: Sheryl Follansbee (Russ) of Holderness, NH, Timothy Davis (Cilene) of Unity, NH and Christopher Davis (Jaime) of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by her grandchildren Benjamin, Andrew, Jason (Ashley), Kiersten (Josh), Samantha, Shawn (Sabrina) Collins, and Russ III (Logan), Adam Follansbee, Cilene (Jackson), Gabriel (Gabriely) and several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice or the Unity Fire Department, P.O. Box 477, Claremont, NH 03743.
Services will be held at the Stringer Funeral Home on October 5, 2024, at 2PM. Family and friends can visit from 1 to 2 prior to the service.
Burial will follow at the Center Cemetery in Unity, NH. A reception will be held at the Unity Fire Station.
