BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — A Brattleboro man, who police say drove off the New Arch Bridge and into a building in August, has his arraignment set for Oct. 29 to answer to charges of Grossly Negligent Operation and a Violation of Conditions of Release.

Bellows Falls Police Chief David Bemis confirmed on Wednesday that Mark Boysen, 62, of Brattleboro, is being charged after allegedly neglecting to stop at a stop sign and driving his vehicle off the bridge.

According to a release by the Bellows Falls Police Department, on Aug. 26 at 10:24 p.m. the department was dispatched to 126 Rockingham Street. This is the former location of both Sanel Auto Parts and Mountainside Tattoo.

When police arrived, Boysen was allegedly standing outside the crashed vehicle wearing a shirt, briefs and socks. He was taken to Springfield Hospital Emergency Room by Golden Cross Ambulance Service for non-life-threatening injuries. The Bellows Falls Fire Department was also at the scene to assist with traffic control and scene safety.

This was a single vehicle accident and there were no other injuries reported.

“This is a vacant building,” Bemis said. “There was the auto parts store, and then a tattoo spot, but they moved as well. There was nobody in the building.”

According to a report by the Brattleboro Reformer on Aug. 27, Bemis was not sure if it was a “mechanical failure” or “inattention” that led to the accident. The crash destroyed several flower containers on-site, as well as the stucco veneer on the building, the Brattleboro Reformer stated.

The Bellows Falls Police Department carried out an investigation and subsequently issued Boysen a citation to appear in Windham Superior Court-Criminal Division on Oct. 29 at 8:30 p.m.
