SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Bellows Falls entered the 111th edition of its rivalry game against Springfield on a 13-game winning streak against the Cosmos.
The Terriers left no doubt that their streak would continue, dominating their neighbors to the north, 41-0.
Bellows Falls scored on all six of its first half possessions and held Springfield to only 14 yards before halftime.
Former Springfield standout Carson Clark got the scoring started for Bellows Falls on a 21-yard run just over two minutes into the contest. Tristan Boylan added his first of five extra points to give the Terriers an early 7-0 edge.
On Springfield’s first possession, Bellows Falls forced its first of three turnovers when Eli Allbee intercepted a pass inside Cosmos territory.
The Terriers needed only five plays to reach the endzone, culminating in a 1-yard touchdown run by fullback Josh Streeter.
On the opening play of the second quarter, Bellows Falls seemed to catch the Cosmos off-guard when they elected to pass after relying heavily on the run in the first frame. Allbee found a wide-open Will Hallock for a 21-yard touchdown pass, and Boylan added the extra point to extend the lead to 21-0.
The Terriers kept their foot on the accelerator the rest of the quarter, punching the ball into the endzone on the ground with Clark and Streeter, and adding a 47-yard touchdown pass from Allbee to Clark.
With Bellows Falls holding a 41-0 lead with 1:48 left until halftime, a running clock went into effect. The running clock would remain in effect the rest of the night, as the Terriers maintained their 41-point advantage all the way to the final buzzer.
Bellows Falls now leads the series 63-45-3. In Vermont, only Lyndon and St. Johnsbury have faced each other on more occasions, with the two Caledonia County schools set to square-off for the 119th time on Oct. 19.
Bellows Falls (5-2) wraps up the regular season at home against Sanborn (New Hampshire) on Friday at 7 p.m. Springfield (4-3) has the week off to prepare for the opening round of the Division 3 playoffs.
