More local alums playing college sports this fall

After publishing stories in recent weeks about alums from Bellows Falls, Springfield, Stevens, and Windsor playing college sports this fall, here’s an update on how athletes from other local schools are faring at the collegiate level.  

Fall Mountain 

Mitch Cormier, Southern New Hampshire University, Golf 

The sophomore was a key member of SNHU’s team that won its first Northeast 10 Conference Championship since 2018. Cormier had a particularly strong performance at the Penman Fall Invitational, where he finished second overall at 1-over par. Cormier earned Northeast 10 Player of the Week following his second-place finish.  

Kelly Ranta, Colby-Sawyer College, Cross Country Running 

The freshman harrier has been a key contributor on a Colby-Sawyer squad that opened the season with a victory on its home course. Ranta finished 23rd overall in 23:33 as Colby-Sawyer held off five challengers at the 6th Annual Charger Invitational. Ranta completed her first 6k race at Dartmouth on Sept. 14, placing 65th in 29:19.  

Ben Tetu, Keene State College, Cross-Country Running 

The freshman runner has finished as one of Keene State’s top four runners in each of the Owls four races so far this season. Tetu opened the season by running a blazing fast 16:09 in the 5k, placing 10th overall at the Keene State Alumni Meet. Other highlights for Tetu include placing second for the Owls at the Keene State Invitational and running an 8k personal record of 26:38 at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.  

Green Mountain  

Anna Church, Russell Sage College, Field Hockey 

The senior defender has started 24 of her 44 career games with the Gators. Church’s top statistical performance came during her junior season when she registered a goal and an assist against Wells College.  

Kagan Hance, Paul Smith’s College, Men’s Soccer 

The junior defenseman has started 23 times in 34 contests during his three seasons with the Bobcats and is captain this fall. Hance has four assists during Paul Smith’s 8-1-1 start to the season.  

Elias Stowell-Aleman, Keene State College, Men’s Soccer 

The junior captain has started 41 of 42 career games as a midfielder for the Owls. Stowell-Aleman has two goals and an assist during his time with Keene State.  

Newport 

Marius Edwards, Norwich University, Rugby 

After succeeding in football, wrestling, and track & field at the high school level, the senior captain has utilized athletic talents to thrive on Norwich’s rugby team. With Edwards serving as one of its key players, the Cadets have posted an 83-26 record during his four years with the program.  

Stevens 

Sabrina Hagar, Penn State Altoona, Cheerleading 

The sophomore backspot is in her second-year cheering for Penn State Altoona. Hagar will be featured at basketball games this winter and at the College Classic National Championship in April.  

Sunapee 

Isabelle Correa, Plymouth State University, Women’s Soccer 

The freshman defender has appeared in 11 games, starting five times for the Panthers this fall. Correa played the entire 90 minutes in recent games against Norwich, Rhode Island College, and Southern Maine.  

Abigail Pollari, Wingate University, Women’s Soccer 

The senior has four career starts in 40 appearances for the Bulldogs. Wingate has posted an impressive 42-16-8 record during Pollari’s four seasons with the program.  

Liz Tschudin, Keene State College, Women’s Soccer 

The sophomore midfielder has started 33 out of 34 career games for the Owls. Tschudin had a goal and three assists as a freshman, and already has four goals and two assists through 13 games this season. Tschudin is currently on a two-game scoring streak after registering a goal at UMass-Dartmouth, and a goal and an assist against Framingham State.
