Claremont Senior Center News 

CLAREMONT, N.H. — The Claremont Senior Center is open every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. There are many activities including pool, card games, cribbage, puzzles, mahjong, knitting and quilting, to name a few. There is also a Miracle Ear and VNA Foot Clinic scheduled, plus an American Red Cross Blood Drive.  

Lunch is served twice a week and must be reserved. Dine-in and drive-thru options are available; reservations are required for both by 10:30 a.m. Call 603-678-0433. The menu for Tuesday, Oct. 22 is BBQ chicken, potato salad, corn and crumble-top apple slab pie. On Thursday, Oct. 24, turkey and cheese mini subs, chips and apple crisp with cranberries will be served. The price is $5 for members and $6 for non-members. Meals begin at 11:45 a.m. and drive-thru starts at noon.  

Do you want more salads in our lunch menu? We are looking for donations for the Salad Fund. Any amount is welcome; let Ken know. When there is enough money, Ken will purchase items and repeat the cycle.  

The Senior Men’s Breakfast is back, slated for Oct. 21 at 8 a.m. The cost is $2 for members and $3 for non-members.  

Mark your calendar for the Winter Wonderland Craft Fair on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are a crafter, we would love to see what you have made to share with the community.  To reserve a table, please contact Marilyn at 603-477-8868. 

The Claremont Country Quilters have created a beautiful fall-themed, queen-size quilt for a raffle. Tickets are now on sale for $1 each or six tickets for $5. Stop in at the center to purchase tickets. The drawing is Dec. 18.  

The last live music and dancing event of the season with Gerry Grimo & The East Bay with a Roaring 20s Theme. Dress in Period Costume for EXTRA fun on Friday, Oct. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the beautiful event room at the Claremont Senior Center. Enjoy dancing, socializing or just listening. Large dance floor and comfortable round table seating. Bring a friend, make new friends. Light snacks and water provided. BYOB, open to the public. Cost is $10 per person.  An October Foot Clinic will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23, sponsored by Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice. There is a $30 charge. Reservations are required by calling 603-748-1731.  

Bingo is held every Wednesday afternoon. You must purchase your cards by 12:45 p.m.; games begin at 1. Concessions are open until the state of bingo.    

Want to show your cribbage skills with others? Come and join other enthusiastic players on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.   

“Wannabe” mahjong newcomers are welcome. Interested in learning the game? Please come on Fridays at 1 p.m.    

Come show off your knitting masterpieces! We are excited to see them so come by on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. and have a good time.    

An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be Monday, Oct. 21 from noon to 5 p.m. Please call 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) to schedule appointment. Blood donors are desperately needed.  

Do you want to be part of the game of pool?  Ladies play every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m.  Men play on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon.  

The next Quilting Bee meeting is Monday, Nov. 4 at 10 a.m. Come tell your story with the quilting skills you want to share with other quilters. You don’t have to be a quilter to attend bring your own project.   

The next chair yoga session will be Monday, Oct. 21 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Members are free, and non-members are $5. The sign-up sheet is in the lobby.  

Bring your line dancing feet every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginners line dance takes place from 7 to 8:30 and then intermediate dancing from 8:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $3 for members (bring your card) and $5 for non-members. One price will give you both beginner and intermediate sessions. Bring your own beverage and a snack if you need one.  

The new beginner tai chi class has begun; next session will be on Wednesday, Oct. 23   from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Claremont Senior Center. You are all welcome to join this new beginner’s class. If you are coming for the first time, join us as soon as you can so that you don’t miss important basics. We will go over the form (a series of flowing movements), exercises to help further with balance/fall prevention/ease of movement, etc., and tools to practice at home.  The cost per month is $40 for members, $50 for non-members and walk-ins are $15 per week. The next Claremont Senior Center Fundraiser Bingo will be Friday, Nov. 1. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and games start at 6. The new bingo machine will debut and we will play new games. Open to the public, must be 18 years or older to play. Concessions are available until intermission. The Senior Center wants to thank all that have come out and support this event.  If you are interested in helping with future events, whether calling to serving at least one event, please call Cheryl at 603-543-5998.  

Anyone interested in playing pingpong? We have two pingpong tables and want to see if there are individuals or groups interested in using them. There is a sign-up sheet in the Senior Center lobby. Come in and let us know or call Cheryl at 603-543-5998 for more information.     

The next membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 1 p.m. This will give you a chance to hear what is happening with the center and have a chance to win a free lunch.    

New members are always welcome to come enjoy our facility. You can sign up for a “one- month trial membership” and enjoy our programs and activities before you join us.
