BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — DVFiber, Southern Vermont’s community-owned fiber optic Internet provider, has been awarded the 2024 SeVEDS Leadership Award for Excellence in Economic Development. This prestigious recognition was presented by Wendy Harrison, president of the Southeastern Vermont Economic Development Strategies (SeVEDS) during the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation’s (BDCC) annual meeting, honoring DVFiber’s exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to enhancing the region’s economic vitality.
As a leader in the drive to connect Southeastern Vermont, DVFiber has already delivered fast, reliable, and affordable high-speed Internet to more than 600 customers, while constructing more than 200 miles of fiber-optic network throughout the region. The organization’s grassroots efforts continue to bring essential connectivity to homes and businesses, playing a critical role in enabling telemedicine, remote education and fostering local entrepreneurship.
“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from SeVEDS,” said Steven John, DVFiber chair. “This award is a testament to the hard work of our grassroots team and our dedication to building a more connected and prosperous future for Southern Vermont.”
With a mission to ensure every home and business in its district has access to fiber-optic internet, DVFiber exemplifies the Vermont spirit of community-driven progress. By connecting residents and businesses with reliable high-speed internet, DVFiber is driving workforce development, enabling remote work and stimulating economic growth for the future of Southern Vermont.
“This award comes at an opportune time. We are celebrating our one-year anniversary of connecting the town of Readsboro, and offering reliable, high-speed internet service to more than 500 households there,” said Gabrielle Ciuffreda, DVFiber executive director. “Readsboro partnered with DVFiber and is providing a $50 rebate on the first bill for residents through the end of this year. We’d like to thank the Town of Readsboro for their support in helping bring broadband to residents in the most need of this vital service. This enormous effort ‘took a village’ — including support from the town, BDCC, VCBB and the Vermont Community Foundation — and we’re proud to be able to celebrate this success!”
The award presentation was part of BDCC’s celebration of its 70-year legacy in promoting economic development and providing essential commercial and industrial real estate in the region. The event, held at the former Vermont Bread building, brought together business leaders, community members and stakeholders committed to building a more connected Southern Vermont.
