Windsor girl’s soccer, field hockey headed to D3 finals

Girls Soccer 

No. 2 Windsor 2, No. 3 Fair Haven 0 

Kemari Wildgoose scored two first half goals to help Windsor advance to the Division 3 finals for the second straight season. Wildgoose headed home the first goal of the afternoon on a corner kick from Audrey Rupp. Wildgoose found the back of the net again after rebounding a shot by Rupp that bounced off the post. Sophia Rockwood earned the shutout in goal while registering 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets.  

Windsor (15-0-1) will face top-seeded BFA-Fairfax (16-0-1) in Saturday’s championship game at Rutland High School.  

Field Hockey 

No. 2 Windsor 7, No. 6 Harwood 0 

Windsor made the long ride to South Burlington well worth the trip after dominating Harwood in the semifinals. Mackenzie Kleefisch paced Windsor with three goals and an assist. Hannah Tenney, Olivia Dube, Gianna Felice, and Lily Prebish each added goals, and Tatum Flanagan earned the shutout in goal for the Yellow Jackets. Windsor (11-4-1) will face top-seeded Montpelier in the Division 3 State Championship on Saturday at UVM.  

No. 3 South Burlington 5, No. 2 Bellows Falls 0 

South Burlington avenged its 3-2 loss to Bellows Falls earlier this season by cruising to a 5-0 victory in the Division 1 semifinals. The SeaWolves gained control of the game early by scoring three goals in the first quarter. Bellows Falls finishes the season with a 14-1-1 record.  

Boys Soccer 

No 3. Green Mountain 1, No. 2 Peoples Academy 0  

Raz Backlund converted a penalty kick with three minutes remaining in the first half that proved to be the difference during Green Mountain’s semifinal victory in Morrisville. Derek Hodgdon earned the shutout in goal with six saves. Green Mountain (16-1) will head to Rutland High School on Saturday to face Stowe in the Division 3 State Championship. It will be the fourth appearance in the state championship game in the past six years for Green Mountain.  

No. 7 Stevens 2, No. 10 Derryfield 1 

Stevens advanced to the Division 3 quarterfinals with a home victory against Derryfield. The Cardinals (8-4-5) will travel to second-seeded Mascoma on Saturday for a 1p.m. contest.  

No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas 4, No. 13 Fall Mountain 0 

Within a stone’s throw of the Maine border, Fall Mountain’s season came to an end in the opening round of the NHIAA Division 3 playoffs. Fall Mountain finishes the season with a 6-8-3 record.  

Volleyball 

No. 4 Oyster River 3, No. 13 Fall Mountain 1 

Fall Mountain gave Oyster River a run in the final two sets, but it was too little, too late, during a 3-1 loss (13-25, 10-25, 25-22, 20-25) in the opening round of the Division 2 playoffs. Eden Haynes (10 points, an ace, six kills, four blocks and seven digs), Maddie Wilke (eight kills, three blocks, and eight digs), Maebel Dussault (seven points, three aces, five kills and 12 digs), Jordyn Cheney (two points and eight assists), and Cora Buswell (six points, an ace, and 18 digs) had strong nights for the Wildcats. Fall Mountain finishes the season with a 10-9 record.
