NEWPORT, NH– Irene L. Pike, 89 of Newport, passed away on December 6, 2024 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center with her loving family by her side.
Irene was born in Flushing, NY on February 21, 1935 to Henry and Agnes (Bond) Dunham. She grew up there, graduating from Flushing High School in 1953 before moving to New Hampshire, where she met her husband, Verne Pike. They were married August 28, 1954, and quickly began growing their family of five children.
She was a very caring and wonderful mother. She took great care of them, always providing and being there for them. She would cook and bake for them all sorts of treats, making sure her grandchildren and great grandchildren enjoyed the same. She was well known for her bread and whoopie pies, as well as some incredible pasta dishes.
Irene was a very devout woman. She was a member of the Episcopal Church, part of the altar guild and taught Sunday School. She also taught Bible Study, sometimes out of her own home.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Verne, her brothers Henry and Charles Dunham, and her sister Florence Mirabella and her husband Ben, and grandchildren, David Nutting and Jason Hall.
Her surviving family include her son Steven Pike and his wife Rosalie, her son David Pike, her son Jeffrey Pike and his wife Chrisina; her daughter Joyce McCullough and her significant other Chris Lemay, her daughter Diane Tenney and her husband Bernie; her sisters-in-law Juanita Dunham and Cheryl Dunham, her sister Agnes Hitchcock and her husband Brian, her sister Grace Wentzel and her husband Raymond, her 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
The date of her graveside service will be announced for the spring.
