Cynthia J. Edson

NEWPORT, NH– Cynthia Jean Edson, our beloved Mom, died peacefully following a long illness at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center on December 18, 2024. She has made her home in Newport for many years and was 72 years young!

Cynthia was born May 18, 1952 in Barre, Vermont, to the late Ivan Clark and Celia Davis Clark. She was raised and educated in Barre and attended Spaulding High School.

Cynthia was a dedicated employee with a variety of jobs including being a receptionist in a medical office and her favorite was working with kids; caring and loving them at day care centers.

Her radiant smile would light up a room upon entering. She loved babies and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It warmed her heart when she gave them hugs and they would stand on her feet – trying to dance with her!

Cynthia had beautiful handwriting, was always complimentary and never said a bad word about anyone. She possessed a beautiful and caring spirit. Even when she faced challenges in her life, her strength came from deep within.

Cynthia was known to be a “homebody” – yet if there was a yard sale on a Saturday morning, she was ready to go! She and her sister Terri were best friends and together enjoyed fun and crazy times! (Some stories will be kept secret.)

She loved Chinese food, watching westerns on television, especially Gun Smoke and War Wagon and Calamity Jane with John Wayne. Cynthia was tech savvy, ordering from Amazon and enjoyed Facebook.

Cynthia was truly the matriarch of her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, hugs, and memories that will lead us forward and keep our family together.

She is lovingly survived by her children: sons Shawn Edson and Nathan Abair, daughters Amy, Courtney and Janessa Edson, brothers Dan and Gary Clark, sisters Debra Clark and Terri Martin, several grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her infant son Todd Edson Abair and brother Michael Clark.

A Celebration of Cynthia’s life will be held on Monday, December 23rd at 6:00 p.m. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, in Newport.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association.
