NEWPORT, N.H. — Like all good things, the 12 Days of Christmas raffle has wrapped up for 2024. The last three winners were EJ Durgin, Landon Richardson and Robin Bellinger. With sponsorship from Mascoma Bank, One Credit Union, Sugar River Bank, LaValley Building Supply, Crown Point Cabinetry and Eastern Propane, we were able to raise over $3,000 this year.
With the support of the purchasers, $3,000-plus will help buy food for over 300 meals. SCNS nutrition program prepares and delivers 500 meals per day. Meals are provided through SCNS Meals-on-Wheels program throughout Sullivan County and congregate meals served at the Newport Senior Center.
Congregate meals give adults 60-plus an opportunity to eat with friends and socialize in a friendly atmosphere. Meals are served at 11:45 a.m. each weekday, except holidays. The suggested donation for a freshly cooked meal is only $3 per meal.
While at the Newport Senior Center, take time to check out Alice’s Gift Shop. The gift shop is a means for the center to raise money to help with operating costs. The gift shop is packed full with puzzles, all occasion cards, glassware, knitting and crocheting supplies, knick-knacks, and so much more. All items in the gift shop are affordably priced. Donations are also accepted in Alice’s Gift Shop all year long.
In addition to bargains available at the Newport Senior Center, there are many activities to partake in, as well. The indoor walking path is open 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each weekday. Please bring walking shoes to change into when using the walking path.
Various card games are played each Monday, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Liliyan’s Legacy Exercise program focuses on strength, balance, and flexibility each Tuesday and Thursday. Everyone is welcome to join the exercise class from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. If 9:30 a.m. is too early for you, join Bone Builders at 10:30 a.m. for an hour. End Tuesday with a game or two of Pitch from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
Chair Yoga is back on Wednesday’s. Chair Yoga class is 9 to 10 a.m. The cost of chair yoga is $8 per class. All proceeds are for the instructor. Cribbage is played on Thursday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Don’t forget bingo every Friday. This is our most popular game here at the Newport Senior Center.
Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and the fun starts at 1. Bingo is filled with friends, laughter, cheers and a little extra cash if you are lucky enough to have the right card.
The Newport Senior Center will be closed Wednesday through Friday next week for the Christmas holiday. We will reopen on Monday, Dec. 30 and close Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. The NSC, SCNS and its employees would like to wish each of you and your family a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
