CLAREMONT, N.H. — Businesses continue to find a home on Washington Street, with Wendy’s being the most recent addition to the city, giving residents of Claremont and beyond a spot to grab a quick bite to eat.

The fast food restaurant known for its burgers, nuggets and Frostys opened for business on Dec. 31, and Mayor Dale Girard said it is another example of popular restaurants setting up shop in Claremont.

“It’s great to have companies coming in from outside to build new buildings, which adds to our tax base,” Girard said. “They are investing in our community, and it gives folks another option on Washington Street. I think it is great to see a new business coming into Claremont.”

The application to the city by Danny Hannoush, managing partner of DDM Property, was for two restaurants, with Wendy’s being 2,245-square-feet and the Chipotle at 2,255-square-feet. They are located at a parcel that was divided into two separate lots located at 384-392 Washington Street. Each restaurants has a drive thru, a by-pass lane and a newly paved parking area that the two adjacent restaurants will share.

Wendy’s has been in business since 1969, when Dave Thomas opened Wendy’s Old-Fashioned Hamburgers in Columbus, Ohio. It offers hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, nuggets, fries and desserts like the Frosty. Chipotle was founded by Steve Else in 1993 in Denver, Colorado, and has more than 3,500 locations across the world. It specializes in tacos, burritos, salads ands bowls, and the food is to order right before your eyes.

Wendy’s is now fully open for business, and Chipotle is expected to be open in the coming months. A message was left with Mike Lussier, district manager of Wiley Management, Inc., but not returned by deadline.

Girard, members of the Claremont City Council, and other city staff members will join the Wendy’s staff for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening on Jan. 10 at 10 a.m.
